Sonko blames Cartels for sneaking garbage back in the City

Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has blamed City cartels and politicians for  sabotaging his quest to transform Nairobi to a better City.

This comes two weeks after the governor faulted businesses within the Central business district, singling out hotels, for being notorious for illegal dumping.

Sources say the cartels are said to be demanding over 1.5 Billion for services that were never rendered and since the governor has refused to pay the cartels, they have resulted to blackmail and sabotage.

According to the governor , powerful garbage cartels and two Nairobi opposition politicians are behind messing the city at midnight after his environment team dumps the garbage in  Dandora during the day.

A city hall official who requested anonymity said that after the trucks dump the garbage in Dandora, the cartels wait till midnight when they load the same trucks and mess the city in strategic points.

Sources say the cartels are said to be demanding over 1.5 Billion for services that were never rendered and since the governor has refused to pay the cartels, they have resulted to blackmail and sabotage.

The Governor is said to have reported the same to the relevant authorities for action.

This comes as the governor and his team are  undertaking a project known as ‘Operation Ng’arisha Jiji’ aimed at ensuring efficient waste management.
