New FUSO truck tightens competition in commercial truck sector

Competition in the medium to heavy commercial truck sector is set to go a notch higher following the launch of the new line of Fuso FJ1623R trucks in Kenya.

(DICV) under the umbrella of Daimler Trucks Asia (DTA) has for decades worked with Simba Colt the official distributor of Fuso Trucks in Kenya in building trucks that meet the needs of the local consumers.

Speaking during the official launch in Nairobi, the Simba Corporation Chief Executive  Dinesh Kotecha, said Fuso Trucks are designed to address the growth potential shifting to developing markets in African countries and particularly in Kenya.

“Kenya is developing its infrastructure and it is expected that there will be a tremendous growth in the construction and related sector and players in this sector need reliable trucks that are globally benchmarked for greater fuel efficiency, lower maintenance, longer life, and greater reliability,” said Mr Kotecha.

FUSO has been present in the Kenya market since the early 70’s with a wide range of vehicles from light-medium- and heavy-duty trucks to light- medium duty buses.

The popular FH has been known in the market as the King of the Road, which Simba has sold more than 13,000 units so far.

Other features of  FJ1623R include Anti-lock Braking System, boasts of Full Air Brake system and differential lock features that are making it stand out in the market.

Data indicate that sales of heavy commercial vehicles still account for about 26.8 per cent of the market share and it is believed that construction projects in the country will fuel sales in the heavier segments in coming days.
