Safaricom Widens M-PESA 1Tap Reach to 5 Major Towns

Safaricom has announced the availability of M-PESA 1Tap in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret and Nyeri.

This follows a successful trial in Nakuru for the past four months.

M-PESA 1Tap will be progressively rolled out to leading supermarkets, petrol stations and restaurants, and will be made available to all Lipa Na M-PESA merchants.

According to Safaricom Chief Executive, Bob Collymore, the service increases the accuracy and privacy of Lipa Na M-PESA by ensuring payments are delivered to a matching merchant.

“As a trusted, easy and convenient cashless payment solution for more than 70,000 businesses in Kenya, Lipa Na M-PESA is advancing to become a more seamless solution,” he said.

How M-PESA 1Tap works:

Customers will have the option of getting either an M-PESA 1Tap wristband, phone sticker or card which will allow payment integrations with M-PESA 1Tap merchant terminals.

To make payment, a merchant will key in the payment amount into their device, tap the customer tag and the customer will then key in their PIN on their phone to validate the payment.

One can make payments with M-PESA 1Tap at Shell, Naivas, Choppies, KenolKobil, KFC, Oil Libya, Total and QuickMart among other places.

The tags are available at Safaricom shops and dealers for Ksh. 20.
